Introduction and Overview
This Request for Information (RFP) is being released to provide Maintenance and Operations Services of the Middle Mile Broadband Network (MMBN).
The State is building a fiber optic network to bring affordable high-speed broadband internet access to unserved and underserved communities across the State. The initiative, created by Senate Bill 156 (2021-2022 Reg.Sess) and Government Code section 11549.50 et seq., and managed by the CDT, is designed to create an open-access, middle-mile network. Any last-mile service providers can connect to the fiber optic infrastructure to offer internet services to homes, businesses, and community institutions. The project is part of Governor Newsom’s “Build More, Faster” agenda, aiming to close the digital divide and improve access to education, healthcare, and employment opportunities. MMBN is a state-led effort to expand broadband infrastructure across California, ensuring that more communities have access to reliable and affordable highspeed internet.
