The Employment Development Department (EDD) is seeking an expert IT Specialist III to serve as our Storage, Backup, and Compute Architect, leading strategic, enterprise wide initiatives that support some of the state’s most critical and sensitive information systems. This is a high impact technical leadership role for a seasoned architect who thrives in designing modern, scalable, and secure enterprise infrastructure.
What You Will Do
- Lead the development of EDD’s enterprise wide compute and storage architecture, including long term strategies, modernization plans, and lifecycle management.
- Provide expert technical guidance to executives, architects, and technical teams on infrastructure design, performance, capacity, and data protection.
- Plan, design, and implement major components of EDD’s IT roadmap, including virtualization, SAN/storage, and data protection technologies.
- Direct complex testing, validation, benchmarking, and integration activities across compute and storage environments.
- Ensure compliance with statewide IT policies and EDD architecture standards and mentor staff in system design, testing, and migration.
This position operates as EDD’s principal architect for compute, storage, virtualization, and data protection platforms. You will collaborate with executives, program leaders, and cross functional IT teams to deliver scalable, secure, and resilient infrastructure solutions that support mission critical statewide services.
This position is headquartered in Sacramento and may be eligible for telework under EDD’s telework policy. Employees are required to report to their headquarters office, as needed. Travel expenses to and from the assigned headquarters are the responsibility of the employee.

Effective July 1, 2025, specific Bargaining Units and associated Excluded State employees are subject to a salary reduction between 2% – 4.62% in exchange for hours in the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) per month.
