Is Tesla moving back to California? Kind of. New engineering headquarters to open in state

Austin-based electric carmaker Tesla will be opening up an engineering headquarters in California, a little more than a year after the company first announced plans to move its headquarters to central Texas.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced the new engineering and artificial intelligence headquarters at an event  Wednesday at the new office space, along with California Gov. Gavin Newsom. The roughly five-minute event was livestreamed on Twitter, and Newsom’s office later confirmed the announcement.

Tesla also livestreamed further comments from Musk as the chief executive took the stage at a party for the new engineering headquarters.
