Job Description and Duties

Effective July 1, 2025 in accordance with the applicable Memorandum of Understanding, the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) was implemented in response to the status of the State budget. PLP 2025 requires each full-time employee in Bargaining Unit R01, and related Excluded, Exempt and Statutory Exempt employees, will have their base salary reduced by three percent and will receive five PLP 2025 leave credits monthly through June 2027. Salaries do not reflect the recent changes.

Under the general direction of the Information Technology (IT) Manager I, the IT Specialist II serves as the Lead Cyber Defense Infrastructure Support Specialist (CDISS), demonstrating a depth of leadership and expertise while performing various complex tasks in support of the overall security posture. The Lead CDISS will optimize and apply architecture solutions for the benefit of the overall organization and heavily participates in advising and/or formulating information technology strategy and policy within the Department. The existing infrastructure includes various software solutions including but not limited to: Cisco Firepower Threat Defenses, Cisco Security Cloud Control, Cisco Umbrella, Azure Security, Netskope, Illumio, NSX (network virtualization platform), Terraform, Palo Alto. The incumbent must maintain confidentiality of information acquired while performing job duties, demonstrate ethical behavior, and work cooperatively. Travel to institutions and after-hours support of California Correctional Health Care Services (CCHCS) software applications and systems may be required due to operational needs.

This position is in the Information Technology Services Division, which deploys the information technology infrastructure and clinical information technology systems that enable the Department’s clinical staff to provide a constitutional level of access to care for our patients. Information technology support ensures California Correctional Health Care Services operates seamlessly, delivering consistent, cost-effective, reliable, accessible and secure services that support clinical and administrative programs; customers, including the patients, and business communities.
