Job Description
Providence Technology Group is seeking two (2) experienced System Admin Technical Leads.
Scope:
The scope of this WOA is the migration of approximately 85 legacy applications currently hosted on end-of-life (EOL) Windows IIS servers to a modern, Tier 3 data center environment running current, supported Windows Server operating systems. The Windows servers are hosted on VMware vSphere virtual infrastructure. The project aims to eliminate operational risks associated with unsupported infrastructure, improve performance and reliability, and align with organizational security and compliance standards.
The Senior Technical Lead (consultant) must have the technical expertise to design and deploy a secure and scalable virtualized Windows server environment on VMware ESXi hosts. The consultant will be responsible for the full lifecycle from VM template deployment to the final configuration of the Internet Information Services (IIS), SQL Server, and SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), along with comprehensive technical diagrams and documentation.
The Contractor’s proposed consultant(s) will be responsible for acting as expert server/network administrators that may include but not limited to:
- Collaborating with project team members (managers, infrastructure admins, application developers, DBAs, and subject matter experts) throughout the test, UAT, and production releases.
2. VMware/Server Administration Role:

- Provisioning/configure/document enterprise Windows Server 2022 (or latest stable version) using templates.
- Configure server VM (CPU, RAM, and storage) per current standards and/or application requirements
- Servers are current with security patches, current hardening process, and integrated into the existing vCenter environment
- Configure VMware HA (High Availability) and DRS rules.
- Web Tier (IIS): Build/configure/document IIS server(s) with required modules (.NET Framework, Request Filtering) and configure HTTPS/TLS 1.3 bindings.
- Database Tier (SQL Server): Install/configure/document SQL Server 2022/2025
- Reporting Tier (SSRS): Deploy SSRS on a standalone instance or shared SQL host; configure the Report Server Web Service URL and Report Manager portal.
3. Network/Firewall/WAF Administration Role

- DNS Migration: Document and identify record updates to facilitate cutover between HQ and TMS
- Rule Set Migration: Review current port-based rules and convert to App-ID based or least-privilege security policies in the new environment.
- Review WAF policies and identify possible issues with existing protection levels
- Identify and troubleshoot network, firewall and WAF issues
4. Collaborate with systems SMEs throughout Test, UAT, and Production phases.
5. Communicate with PM and Client Management on issues identified with proposed resolution options to successfully rehost the systems and application in TMS.
6. Ensure State security requirements are addressed and satisfied throughout all deliverables and development efforts.

The client has indicated that the position is fully remote, but the consultant must reside in the USA and be available to work Pacific Time Zone hours between the hours of 6:00 AM and 6:00 PM., Monday through Friday, except for State holidays.

This position is expected to start in early March and end in October 2026.
This is a relatively fast-paced environment where a proactive approach is appreciated. Candidates may be asked for references and sample work products. The selected candidate will be subject to a background check.
