GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Senior Data Warehouse Analyst is responsible for translating business data needs into data warehousing and business intelligence solutions through close collaboration with business partners and technical teams. The Senior Data Warehouse Analyst also performs business and technical-level analysis that contributes to enterprise data modeling, data transformation, and data analytics solutions. This role requires very solid business analysis and technical skills necessary to support Enterprise Data Warehouse development.

 

TASKS, DUTIES, FUNCTIONS:

  1. Ability to perform hands-on, SQL-level evaluations of data models supporting front-line business-systems.  This includes reverse engineering data models at the table and column level when working with transactional systems (3NF) and Kimball-Dimensional models.  Applicant must be comfortable analyzing not only complex data models but other data structures such as delimited and XML file-based data structures.
  2. Using industry best practices, applicant must have relevant experience translating business requirements into business intelligence visualizations for cloud-based analytics and reporting.  Hands-on experience working with cloud based BI solutions such as Microsoft Power BI desired.  Other relevant experience with Microstrategy, Tableau or other similar analytics platforms also relevant.
  3. Working knowledge and relevant analysis experience utilizing industry leading database, data integration and data analytics platforms such as Informatica, Oracle, SQL Server, R, and SAS desired.
  4. Drive efficient and effective joint business/IT requirements and solution discussions in addition to stakeholder review meetings.
  5. Experience working with Sr. and Executive management is a must.
    Must be able to efficiently drive project-scoping discussions and effectively negotiate and close on scope with Sr. leadership.
  6. Proven leadership of business intelligence and analytic initiatives in fast paced multiple project environment.
  7. Covers all aspects of the Software Development Lifecycle with respect to data warehousing and reporting solutions.  Requirements analysis, report content identification and report functionality analysis, SDLC documentation, and other recommend designs/solutions will be necessary to meet business or other requirements.
  8. Determine and recommend reporting enhancements or improvements for existing as well as new processes through the use of enterprise business intelligence tools to enhance the analysis capability or operational efficiency of various business units within the organization. This includes working across business areas, applications, data domains and technologies.
  9. Document business requirements (BRDs) and functional design specifications (FRDs) for conversions, interfaces and reports.
  10. Identify functional gaps and opportunities of improvement.
  11. Coordinate and drive issue resolution with cross-functional teams during the design and development process.
  12. Work closely with users to define and document use cases, scenarios and test scripts.
  13. Prepare and execute test plans to ensure solution/design meet business requirements.
  14. Create documentation for processes, training and operational support.
  15. Ensure requirements are delivered in timely stages, allowing the design and development to make the necessary progress.
  16. Maintain a thorough understanding of state and federal laws and regulations related to credit union compliance including bank secrecy and anti-money laundering laws appropriate to the position.
  17. Ensure solutions within the environment follow established guidelines, policies and technical frameworks.
  18. Perform evaluations of data and data structures from disparate systems.
  19. Proactively seek opportunities to understand and improve business processes through data business intelligence and data analytics.
  20. Act as liaison between business clients and technical staff throughout the life cycle of projects or process improvements. Coordinate effectively with IT and other departmental projects analysts and managers.
  21. Stay current with technology trends, solutions and vendors.
  22. Perform other job-related duties as necessary.

PHYSICAL SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND EXERTION UTILIZED IN THE PERFORMANCE OF THESE TASKS:

  1. Effective oral and written communication skills required to interpret, resolve, and document networking problems.
  2. Occasional local, statewide and inter-state travel may be required.
  3. Periodically work extended and weekend hours.
  4. Ability to work under pressure.
  5. Must possess sufficient manual dexterity to operate standard office equipment such as PC, copy and fax machines and telephones.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent work experience.
  2. EXPERIENCE: Combined minimum 7 years’ progressive experience in business requirements analysis and data analysis are key success factors in for this position.  High intermediate to expert SQL skills are a must.  Previous experience with data modeling, data analysis, data quality analysis and report development desired.  Exposure to a diverse enterprise application landscape with a solid understand of how data flows through a business is critical to this position.
  3. KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:

TECHNICAL:

  • Must be proficient at analyzing data with SQL, TSQL PSQL or Excel while accessing diverse application architectures and data models.
  • Ability to access and analyze data in complex data models with little supervision or input is a must.
  • Light scripting experience with Bash, Powershell, Python or Perl desired.
  • Excellent analytical and technical skills in varied IT technologies. Proficient in software/hardware enterprise technologies, systems integrations and software/hardware release to production methodologies, etc.
  • Excellent complex problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to quickly comprehend the functions and capabilities of new and existing technologies.

Non-TECHNICAL:

  • Project and program management skills and experience a must.
  • Ability to host efficient and business requirements sessions and drive towards agreed upon scope and outcomes essential.
  • Candidate must have experience working with Sr. business leaders.
  • Proven experience in executing system and integration testing.
  • Proficient in requirements definition, evaluation and documentation.
  • Excellent planning and organization skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence technical and non-technical parties.
  • Ability to work with technical and business oriented teams.
