The Senior Solutions Architect provides technical leadership performing the engineering and integration of systems infrastructure to support Golden 1’s architectures and business unit integrations. Daily responsibilities include interacting with Solutions Architects, Operations, Information Security, Business Owners, and Project Management teams to ensure operational availability, perform design initiatives to enable new services and documentation of highly complex technical environments. All work is performed in a 7x24x365 high-availability environment. The Senior Systems Architect is the subject matter expert for the systems and storage infrastructures at Golden 1 and is responsible for advanced level strategy and design. Utilize knowledge and understanding of technology trends and concepts through work experience and interest in the latest innovation and thought leadership (e.g., Agile/ Scrum, Cloud Platform Technologies (AWS, Azure, GCP), DevOps, Digital Enterprise, Mobile Platforms, Data Analytics).
Duties and Responsibilities:
  •  Architecture work involves developing high level frameworks that align an organization’s IT infrastructure with business processes/data to improve the efficiency and productivity of business operations 
  • Mapping the relationships between information systems components (i.e., end users, business processes, applications, data, IT platform hardware/software, and networks) 
  • Identifying key interactions and dependencies across separate systems and platforms 
  • Evaluating the total cost of ownership and return on investment of various architecture
  • Managing large projects or processes with limited oversight from manager. 
  • Coaching, reviewing and delegating work to lower level professionals. 
  • Provide engineering and design contributions to complex, highly-available computing environments. 
  • Architect computing infrastructure solutions that meet Golden 1 requirements & standards. 
  • Define the technical requirements for new deployments based on business needs. 
  • Define the system integration and engineering for new platform/programs services. 
  • Drive technical discussions with the ability to translate business owners’ desires into technical requirements and system engineering requirements into computing infrastructure. 
  • Plan and design the physical deployment of a solution. 
  • Obtain quotes from different suppliers for the required equipment. 
  • Work with System Administrators, Datacenter Change Management Admin and Network Engineering to define and document the location of the various physical/virtual machines, required subnets/VLANS, VIPs, firewall rules, etc. 
  • Participate in the definition and specification of the datacenter’s network services. 
  • Work with Systems Manager(s) to engineer & design the core/distribution/access layers within the datacenter footprint. 
  • Provision hardware technologies, evaluate performance and capacity plan. 
  • Provide leadership and direction through technical subject matter expertise to staff responsible for integration of software and hardware applications.
  • Support and drive change by influencing business owners, technical team members and technical management.
  • Act as technology evangelist, bringing new solutions, integrations and processes to life from within the credit union.
  • Mentor junior technology team members, share knowledge and experience to grow skillsets and support career growth to team members.
  • Act as Subject matter expert support for deployed systems. 
  • Lead the development of Systems architecture, design. Provide ongoing review of system configurations in collaboration with relevant team members. 
  • Direct large technology projects that cross multiple technologies, platforms and administrative boundaries. 
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of state and federal laws and regulations related to credit union compliance including bank secrecy and anti-money laundering laws appropriate to the position. 
  • Participate in after hour escalations to assist on call team members.
  • Perform other job-related duties as necessary.


  1. EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems or comparable discipline preferred. Additional work experience may be considered in lieu of a 4 year degree. 
  2. EXPERIENCE: Minimum of ten years’ experience in Information Technology in a senior level administrator or engineer role. Minimum of three years’ experience in an architecture role. Minimum of three years technology project management and personnel supervision is required. 
    • Demonstrate strong aptitude to work with business owners for planning of enterprise-wide technologies, working effectively and support others in an environment of continuous change
    • Demonstrated ability to work with multi-disciplinary teams and achieve consensus in technical decision making discussions.  
    • Subject matter expert with Cisco Firewalls, Routers, Switches, Voice Gateways, and Fabric Interconnects 
    • Demonstrates strong knowledge with a broad spectrum of Load Balancing, Local Traffic Manager, Access Policy Manager, SAML/SSO.
    • Subject matter expert with common system technologies, including Windows Server in an enterprise domain environment, SQL Server and/or other relational databases, Windows Failover Clustering, Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS), AD group policies, PowerShell and scripting processes, vSphere system administration and support including VMotion, HA, DRS, vCenter Host Profiles, resource pools, with Citrix XenApp, Storage and P2V migrations.
    • Demonstrates strong knowledge in disaster recovery, data backup and restoration, and designing multi-site redundant hardware and software integrations.
    • Demonstrates strong knowledge with Microsoft certificate authorities and public certificate authorities, disk encryption, multi-factor authentication mechanisms, and other common security and encryption technologies.
    • Background in software application development on Linux, Windows and Web platforms (e.g., Agile/ Scrum, Cloud Platform Technologies (AWS, Azure, GCP), DevOps, Digital Enterprise, Mobile Platforms, Data Analytics).
    • Familiarity with multiple languages, including C++, Java, Python
    • Experience in developing mission-critical or high availability real-time software a plus
    • Prior exposure to Apache Kafka, Microservice Architectures and other enterprise software architecture
    • Demonstrated experience as a team lead or technical lead on a project(s), coaching and mentoring of less experienced staff
    • Experience in both agile and incremental software engineering practices
    • Experience with enterprise management, monitoring, capacity planning, performance monitoring. 
    • Demonstrated ability to quickly learn and master disparate line of business applications and understand complex workflows and application integrations.
    • Ability to think and act conceptually, strategically, and tactically.  


      • Current Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert with Exchange, or Design electives, and one of the following: 
          • VMware Certified Advance Professional
          • Citrix Certified Enterprise Administrate
          • DevOps Foundation Certification or Continues Delivery Architecture (CDA)  (desired)
