SUMMARY:Reproducible Reports and Presentations with Quarto
DESCRIPTION:***Please Use Source Link Below to Confirm Event Details***\nDetails\n\n\nOur July Meetup will be a remote gathering; the Zoom link will be posted the week before the event. \nWe all have analyzed data and created visualizations for a report the time-consuming and error-prone way. Likely we’ve also had to present that content with a slide deck. After all that painstaking labor and formatting\, have you ever had to re-create the report and slides after an update to the data? Or maybe\, you’ve had to generate variations of these materials for different audiences or subsets of the data? \nUse Quarto to improve your efficiency\, reproducibility\, and sanity by streamlining the process of generating reports and slides. Learn how to reuse content and code\, use parameters for different variations\, and consistently style your publications. \n\nSpeaker\n\n\n\n\nJadey Ryan\n\nJadey is a data scientist at the Natural Resources and Agricultural Sciences section of the WA Dept. of Agriculture. She is an R enthusiast obsessed with efficiently creating beautiful data products and decision-support tools\, especially with Quarto. Away from the computer\, catch her trying new foods with her husband\, snuggling with her three cats\, or taking leisurely strolls in the great outdoors. Learn more at jadeyryan.com.

SUMMARY:Discussion - Topic: AWS Control Tower
DESCRIPTION:***Please Use Source Link Below to Confirm Event Details***\n  \n\nDetails\n\n\nThis week’s topic: AWS Control Tower \nAs described in Thoughtworks Technology Radar Vol. #29. \nMulti-team account management is a challenge in AWS\, especially in setup and governance. AWS Control Tower addresses this challenge by simplifying setup and automating governance; it addresses regulatory requirements with guardrails. AWS Control Tower has a built-in Account Factory that helps automate the account provisioning workflow. Among other things\, you can update\, unmanage and close accounts that you create and provision through Account Factory. Due to its lack of automation and customization\, Amazon introduced AWS Control Tower Account Factory for Terraform (AFT). AFT allows you to provision customizations to send webhooks or take specific actions that allow for the integration with other tools to kick off jobs as part of the account creation process. One of the use cases leveraged by our team was to manage a set of out-of-the box items for accounts that were set and-forget configurations for baselining and creating access for roles for GitHub Actions. This resulted in providing developers with an account that’s security baselined with a fully integrated VPC\, ready to receive workload via GitHub Actions. Our teams have reported great results using AWS Control Tower to manage accounts\, as a single access control for multiple teams\, and with leveraging AFT in their workloads. \nZoom link will be added about 10 min before the event starts. \nDiscussion Resources : \nArticle and video resources used to drive the discussion will be added soon after the previous week’s meetup.

SUMMARY:Data-First GraphQL
DESCRIPTION:***Please Use Source Link Below to Confirm Event Details***\n  \n\nDetails\n\n\nThere is a debate in the GraphQL community between “schema-first” and “code-first” development. Yet\, there is a third way: data-first GraphQL APIs. This is where principles and pragmatism meet. “Do not Repeat Yourself”\, “Domain-Driven Design\,” and “Data-Driven Development” are important principles in software. Just as important are pragmatic concerns like integrating vast reservoirs of heterogeneous brownfield data sources\, exposing it all as production-grade APIs\, and doing it fast. The remorseless logic of these factors leads ineluctably to one conclusion: APIs must derive from the data\, not from a schema or from code that has been curated manually\, independent of the data. In this talk\, we at Hasura wade into the debate to argue for this third way. Ship APIs faster\, cheaper\, and more reliably with data-first GraphQL development. \nSpeaker Name\nDavid A. Ventimiglia \nSpeaker Bio\nMy name is David A. Ventimiglia\, and I am a Solutions Architect at Hasura. I have been a theoretical astrophysicist\, a software engineer\, a data engineer\, and a machine learning engineer. I love writing code\, and yet I believe code is better when there’s less of it. Now\, I work at Hasura where I show customers how much can be accomplished with how little code.

SUMMARY:Test-Driven Development in the Larger Context: TDD & ATDD PMIs Disciplined Agile
DESCRIPTION:***Please Use Source Link Below to Confirm Event Details***\n  \n\nDetails\n\n\nScott L. Bain\nSenior Technical Trainer at PMI \n“Test-Driven Development” was originally suggested by Ward Cunningham in the mid 1900’s as a way for developers to generate code from unit tests. In the ensuing years it has also been suggested that organizations can drive requirements into development by writing acceptance tests to guide the process. Which of these should we call “TDD”? Which\, if either\, is more important\, or should take precedence in terms of our attention and allocation of resources? Should we do them both? can they work together? How does ether relate to traditional testing? \nThis presentation will clarify the relationship between these two processes\, how they are different\, how they are the same\, and most importantly how they can work together synergistically. We will demonstrate how TDD can strengthen any agile process. Along the way you will learn why you should become “test driven”\, what that means\, and a powerful way to do it. \nTDD is a very powerful paradigm for software development from business prioritization to requirements analysis through product design to working code. Join us and learn how it works\, and where you fit into the process. \nIf you would like to be a future speaker for Agile Boulder\, please use this Submission Form.
