You’ll get a distributed SQL database, a relatively new category of relational DBs. This talk introduces you to the whys and hows of distributed SQL. First, we’ll find out why the world needs yet another database category. Next, we’ll discuss how these databases are designed and function internally. Lastly, we’ll learn when and how applications should use distributed SQL. Speaker Bio Denis started his software engineering career at Sun Microsystems and Oracle, where he built JVM/JDK and led one of the Java development groups. After learning Java from the inside, he joined the world of distributed systems and databases, where he has remained ever since. His experience spans from the development of database engines and high-performance applications to training and education on the topic of distributed applications. Session #2 - Mastering PostgreSQL Administration by Bruce Momjian Abstract Mastering PostgreSQL Administration Speaker Bio Bruce Momjian is co-founder and core team member of the PostgreSQL Global Development Group, and has worked on PostgreSQL since 1996. He has been employed by EDB since 2006. He has spoken at many international open-source conferences and is the author of PostgreSQL: Introduction and Concepts, published by Addison-Wesley. Prior to his involvement with PostgreSQL, Bruce worked as a consultant, developing custom database applications for some of the world's largest law firms. As an academic, Bruce holds a Masters in Education, an honorary doctorate, was a high school computer science teacher, and lectures internationally.
