Topic: Implementing lean Kanban
Speaker: Daren Edmiston
Bio – Daren Edmiston, CSP, is an Agile Evangelist and has been practicing Agile for 12+ years with multiple organizations. He has implemented Scrum, Kanban, XP, RAD and worked successfully in waterfall organizations across industries.
Description – Agile in software development continues to mature with Scrum being the predominate methodology adopted. There are others including Kanban/Scrumban which is the second most adopted methodology across industries. We will discuss the origins of Kanban, what is getting started in Kanban for existing projects.
Kanban continues to gather momentum as a methodology. Although it started as a manufacturing process, it was operationalized in software development in support of the Xbox engineering team. Since then it has been implemented by operations teams, infrastructure teams, software development teams, marketing teams, HR teams, and legal teams across industries. Kanban continues to prove to be very versatile for any team wanting to implement the change. Kanban is not without pitfalls, and requires teams to engage in Kaizen – aiming at continuous improvement in product and process. This discussion will focus on the some practices to implement Kanban, and recognizes the need for the philosophical change of the team. The hope is through practices the change in philosophy of the team moves also.
